New Backup
From Research IT
There will be two parallel backups that occur with bacula on our new system. One will be a daily incremental and contain at least 90 days of backups. The other will be for disaster recovery and would be recoverable at any time in the future from a quarterly tape or weekly differentials.

Daily Internal Incremental
All 9 internal slots and 7 magazine slots ( left magazine ) will be used for a pool of tapes specifically for daily incremental backups and restoration. This will provide 6400 GB of raw storage that will contain at least 90 days of backups. I expect that little or no intervention will ever be necessary in this pool. We will have to re-asses this pool as more space is allocated from the various file servers.
"Off-Site" backups
This backup set will have a weekly granularity with the current tapes always leaving CS-5 on a weekly basis. Once a month full backups will be sent "Off-Off site" and weekly differentials will be stored on SB-4 or other equivilient "Off-site" location. CS-5 operators will be required to swap magazines of tapes out of the PV132T on a weekly basis, but little other intervention will be required.
Disaster Recovery
Here are several different scenarios that will show back up coverage.
If a file is lost
If the file is less than 90 days old it will be retrieved from the daily incremental.
If the file is older than 90 days and no longer in the daily incremental we can recover to the nearest full monthly available or one of the permanent full quarter that have been retained.
If the tape changer is lost
If the tape change is lost, files from the last full or differential can be restored, but we would loose the daily incremental pool.
If CS-5 is lost
Files can be restored to the previous Sunday based on the last full and the differentials for the month.
If SUNY Albany is lost
Files can be restored to the beginning of the month.
